LAS undergraduates' advising home is based in the LAS Advising Center and extends through a network of College advisors specializing in academic programs (majors, curriculum, minors), pre-health, pre-law, and career development. As a primary source of college information, academic advisors of LAS Student Academic Affairs assist students as they pursue their academic and professional goals, while also addressing the students’ emotional, cultural, and developmental needs.

All undergraduates have an assigned academic advisor in the LAS Advising Center and will be a part of that advisor’s student cohort for the duration of their academic career at UIC – from Orientation to Graduation. Serving as student advocates, advisors are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist undergraduate student advisees with university and college degree requirements, and academic policies and procedures. In addition to your assigned advisor, each LAS student will work with departmental advisors to explore major and minor programs of study. Incoming students must first attend New Student Orientation.
Major & Minor Advising Heading link
Whether led by departmental faculty or academic professionals, major and minor advising assists continuing students in understanding program requirements and serve as a resource in connecting students with opportunities found in the academic department of study. Departmental advisors are connected to the academic program through a faculty director of undergraduate studies. Departmental advisors work in collaboration with your assigned advisor.
Pre-Health Advising Heading link
Pre-Health Advising offers specialized advising for students interested in pursuing future professional studies in a variety of health careers. Pre-health advisors work in collaboration with students’ academic and major advisors to support academic and pre-professional goals. Students are encouraged to utilize the array of services and resources Pre-Health Advising offers.

Pre-law advising and programming at UIC are offered through the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Academic Advising Center and serve as an additional resource beyond your assigned and major advisor. Students and alums from all colleges, with any level of interest in law school, are encouraged to take advantage of the resources available through the Pre-Law Advising Office.
