Why did you choose UIC and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences?
I chose UIC and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as the community within the school and the department, specifically, was very appealing. I thought it would be very useful in my undergrad journey.
How did you choose your major?
The journey to choosing my major was a fairly simple one, I’d say. In high school, I wasn’t entirely certain of what I wanted to do. During my junior year, I took AP Environmental Science. I thoroughly enjoyed the topics throughout the class, and I knew then that I wanted to pursue a career in the subject.
What has been your favorite class or professor so far?
My favorite class I’ve taken has surprisingly been out of my department (EAES). It was ANTH 102: Introduction to Archaeology. It was such a fun and interesting class, and it led to me getting a minor in Anthropology. The department is so fun and welcoming, that I couldn’t not take more classes involving ANTH.
What are your aspirations after graduation? What are you looking to do after graduation?
Currently, I am leaning toward advancing my education for a Master’s Degree after I finish my Undergrad. I’m debating between specializing and partaking in research in Paleontology, specifically Paleobotany, or Atmospheric Sciences. They are both so intriguing, but dissimilar.
If you could give your freshman-year self one piece of advice, what would it be?
If I were to give my freshman-year self one piece of advice, I’d tell her to stay open-minded and keep a positive outlook, regardless of the situation(s) at hand. Things do get easier, and success is near.
